Ingredients
- 4 tbspall-purpose flour
- 4 tbspgranulated sugar
- 2 tbspunsweetened cocoa powder
- 0.25 tspsalt
- 1 largeegg
- 3 tbspwhole milk
- 3 tbspvegetable oil
- 0.25 tspvanilla extract
- 3 tbspchocolate chips
Instructions
- 1
Select a microwave-safe mug that holds at least 12 ounces (350ml) to prevent overflow. Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt directly into the mug, then stir thoroughly with a fork until the mixture is uniform with no streaks of cocoa powder remaining.
- 2
Crack the egg into the mug with the dry ingredients and beat it well with a fork, making sure to break up the yolk completely and incorporate it throughout the mixture.
- 3
Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the mug. Stir vigorously for 30-45 seconds until the batter is completely smooth and no lumps of flour remain, making sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the mug.
- 4
Fold in the chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the batter. Reserve a few chips to sprinkle on top if desired for presentation.
- 5
Place the mug in the center of your microwave and cook on high power (1000 watts) for 90 seconds. The cake will rise significantly and the top should look just set but still slightly moist in the center.
- 6
Carefully remove the mug from the microwave using an oven mitt, as it will be very hot. Let the cake cool for 1-2 minutes before eating, as the interior will be extremely hot. The cake is best enjoyed warm, straight from the mug with a spoon, optionally topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
